A short history
Cortex Design was originally formed in 1989
to develop the highly-successful Reflex Graphic
Card, which proved an inexpensive method to
produce extra-high resolutions for the Atari
Mega ST (up to 1024x1024) in monochrome. Not
only was support given to 21" monitors,
but it was even possible to realise 1024x800
on standard SM124 monitors!
Spurred on by this, we then developed the
Exposé video digitizer for the Atari
Falcon. Once again, this proved to be a sure-fire
success and, with Douglas Little, this benefited
the Falcon, particularly with the introduction
of APEX Media in December 1994.
Following this, many other products were
developed: Thought! Ideas Processor, a powerful
software package, and the Eclipse PCI Adaptor
being the most popular.
But with Atari sales sadly in decline the
situation was reappraised and Cortex diversified
into other fields, namely: Art & Graphics, Freelance
journalism, Web design and Publishing.
